The Height of Summer

Sweet, sultry and sensationally delicious.

Late July is the Oregon summer moment we dream about all winter long. It feels almost too good to be true. But the bounty is very real, and ripe for the picking!

Local stone fruit is ON! Peaches and Nectarines from Baird are joined by ultra-juicy Veteran peaches, sweet Shiro plums, and tangy Geo Pride pluots from Dove Creek. Pie Cherries from Kiyokawa are calling all you bakers into the kitchen. And the first very first trickle of Italian Prune plums is a perfect reason to haul out the canning supplies.

Local melon season is always a practice in patience, but the wait is finally over! Deliriously delicious Walchli Farms Cantaloupe and Watermelon are here. Boasting exceptional flavor and climate-friendly growing practices, dry-farmed Charentais, Sugarcube, and Piel de Sapo are not to be missed. And available now from Quiet Acre Farm, aromatic Dove melons, Sarah's Choice cantaloupe, and two types of musky, rich Charentais called Alvaro and Griselet!

Sumptuous Sungold tomatoes from Eloisa Organic Farm are knocking our socks off with their sweet flavor - they might be the very best we've ever had. A rainbow of Heirlooms are begging to be sliced thick for a BLT. And, for those anxiously awaiting Astianas...an update! We anticipate they will be in full swing by early/mid September.

Along with July's cool cucumbers, snappy beans, sweet summer squash, and piquant peppers, it's an unbeatable time of year to eat locally!

Bountiful Local Berries

It's a great time of year to be a local berry lover! Look beyond Raspberries and Blueberries (though grab some of those, too) to explore Loganberries, Tayberries, and Gooseberries. At Rubinette, we encourage you to try before you buy, so sample some to find your favorite. A pint of Marionberries is a must-have summer treat. Just around the corner, Mulberries, Columbia Giant blackberries, and Boysenberries. And thanks to our local farmers, you can enjoy Strawberries all summer.
